  • Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
  • Where knowledge is free;
  • Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
  • Where words come out from the depth of truth;
  • Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
  • Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
  • Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action --
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father,
let my country awake.

எந்தை நாடு எழுகவே !

எங்கே நெஞ்சம் அஞ்சதல் இல்லையோ
சிங்கம் எனத்தலை நிமிர்ந்து நிற்குமோ;

அறிவின் விடுதலை செறிந்தே உள்ளதோ;

சிறிய சுவர்களால் பரந்தஇவ் வுலகைப்
பிரித்துச் சிறுசிறு துண்டு செய்யாரோ;

உண்மை என்ற மண்ணுள் முளைத்து
செஞ்சொற் பூக்கள் எங்கே மலருமோ;

சலியா முயற்சியால் வலிவுகொள் கரங்கள்
கலைமலி முதிர்ச்சியைக் காண்டல் எங்கோ;

அறிவுஎன் னும்நல்ல அழகுநீர் ஓடை
உரியதன் பாதையை மறந்து தவறி

அரிய சுரத்தின் வறிய மணலெனும்
உயிரிலாப் பழக்கத்தில் ஓய்ந்தெங்கு விடாதோ

என்றும் பெருகும்நல் எண்ணம் செயலுக்கு
எங்குன்னால் உள்ளம் இயக்கப் படுமோ-

அந்தவான் உலகில் என்றன் தாய் நாடு
எந்தாய் அருள்வாய் விழித்தே எழுகவே !
