Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam. Amen.I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. On the third day, he rose again. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. All my life I will tell of his wonders
He is the maker of all earth and heaven
Of the ocean the seas and all they hold

The almighty is faithful forever
He is just to the poor and the outraged
It is he who gives bread to the hungry
Who delivers the captives form their chains

There shall be showers of blessing

There shall be showers of blessing
This is the promise of love
There shall be seasons refreshing
Sent from the saviour above

Showers of blessing
Showers of blessing we need
Mercy drops round us are falling
But for the showers we plead

There shall be showers of blessing
Send them upon us o lord
Grant to us now a refreshing
Come and now honour thy word

There shall be showers of blessing
O that today they might fall
Now as to God we’re confessing
Now as on Jesus we call

All to Jesus I surrender

All to Jesus I surrender all to him I freely give
I will ever love and trust him in his presence daily live
I surrender all I surrender
All to thee my blessed saviour I surrender all

All to Jesus I surrender
Lord I want to follow thee
Lose my life that I may save it
Thru thy cross gain victory

All to Jesus I surrender
Born of Mary God’s own son
Thru this Eucharistic banquet
Make me Jesus with thee one

All to jesus I surrender
may I see thee in the poor
In the fight against opprerssion
Let me never thee ignore

All to Jesus I surrender
take me to thy Father’s side
Let me feel thy holy spirit
Truly know that he’s my guide

My Father’s house

1. Come and go with me to my Father’s house
...where there is joy, joy, joy

2. Jesus is the way to my Father’s house....
3. Jesus is the light in my Father’s house...
4. There is room for all in my father’s house

Mother of God plead with your son

Mother of God plead with your son
Pray for us sinners Mary most pure

May God pour cleansing streams over us
Washing our souls from every stain

May God his spirit breathe into us
Open our graves and bring us to life

My heart is like a flute

My heart is like a flute and I want to play all day
Jesus Christ is my music master
Deep from my heart flows a simple melody
Great is his love, love without end

Once I met the Lord on the way
Deep was his gaze, kind was his smile
True were his words gentle his touch
He brought me peace and freedom

He is my shepherd. He is my guide
Dark be the night Christ is my light
Nothing I fear Jesus is near
He leads me to the kingdom
Blest are you Lord God of all creation
Thanks to your goodness this bread we offer
Fruit of the earth, work of our hands
It will become the bread of life

Blessed be God (2), blessed be God for ever
Blessed be God (2) blessed be God for ever amen

Blest are you Lord God of all creation
Thanks to your goodness this wine we offer

What so ever you do - Matthew 25:40

What so ever you do to the least of my brothers you do unto me
What so ever you do to the least of my sisters you do unto me

When I was hungry you gave me to eat
When I was thirsty you gave me to drink
Now enter into the home of my Father

When I was tired you helped me find rest
When I was worried you calmed all my fears
Now enter into the home of my Father

We are gathering

1. We are gathering together unto him-2
Unto him shall the gathering of the people be
We are gathering together unto him
2. Singing
3. Offering
4. Praying

God’s spirit is in my heart

God’s spirit is in my heart
He has called me and set me apart
This is what I have to do
What I have to do

He sent me to give the good news to the poor
Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more
Tell blind people that they can see
And set the down trodden free
And go tell every one
The news that the kingdom of God has come-2

Just as the father sent me
So I’m sending you out to be
My witnesses throughout the world
The whole of the world

We have received the bread of life

We have received the bread of life
Joy fills our hearts again
We have received the risen Christ
Jesus in us will reign

I am the bread he said that will feed your soul
Eat of this my flesh, reach the heavenly goal

I am the vine... nourishing each shoot
Live upon my sap, Give abundant fruit

I am the life... life all people prize
If you live in me, with me you will rise

I am the way... by which you all should go
Following in my steps, my father you will know

I am the peace ... no other peace endures
I am the only love, which my peace ensures

Take our bread, we ask you

Take our bread, we ask you
Take our hearts, we love you
Take our lives, oh father
We are yours, we are yours

Yours as we stand at the table you set
Yours as we eat the bread our hearts can’t forget
We are the sign of your life with us yet
We are yours, we are yours

Yours holy people standing
Washed in your blood
Spirit-filled yet hungry we await your food
We are poor but we’ve brought
Ourselves as best as we could
We are yours, we are yours

I have decided to follow Jesus

I have decided to follow Jesus (3)
No turning back, no turning back!
The world behind me the cross before me (3)
Though none go with me, still I will follow (3)
O take the whole world but give me Jesus (3)
We have decided to follow Jesus (3)

Walking with the Lord

Walking with the Lord
We are walking in the morning
Lift up your hearts
For you are walking with God
Singing to the Lord
We are singing in the sunshine
Lift up your hearts
For you are singing to God

Hand in hand with everyone.
We are walking, walking
Black and white and brown
Together, walking, walking,
Singing new songs now
Living new lives
Building new bridges
Walking distant miles
Well we are walking with the Lord...

Rain and storm will not prevent us
Walking, walking
Faith and hope and love
Will send us walking, walking
Crossing all barriers
Climbing all stiles
Breaking through fences
Walking distant miles
Well we are walking with the Lord

Abdul Kalam's letter to Every Indian

Why is the media here so negative? Why we are in India so embarrassed our own strength our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?

We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.

Look at Dr. Sudarshan; he has transferred the tribal village into a self -sustaining, self- driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspapers. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five year had transformed his desert into an orchard and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments and deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism and crime...Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question; why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign TVs foreign shirts foreign technology.

Why this obsession with everything imported? Do we not realize that self- respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving a lecture, when a 14 years old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life was. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. You must prove, ''India is not an underdeveloped nation; it is a highly developed nation.''

YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke. The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.
YOU say, say and say...

But what do YOU do about it? Take a person on his way to Singapore. Give him a name -'YOURS'. Give him a face- 'YOURS' .you walk out of the airport and you are at your international best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the rods or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground as they are...You pay $5 (approx.Rs.60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to the parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status or identity.... In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU?

YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai. YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah. YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to 'see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else'. YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?) I am so and so's son. Take your two and get lost.
YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand...

`Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo?

We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India?

In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. The same is the case in Japan...

Will the Indian do that here? Never, we go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.

We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop too pick up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.

We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff!

When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? 'It's the whole system which has to change. How will it matter if I alone forego my son's rights to a dowry?

So who's going to change the system?

What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us, it consists of our neighbours, other household, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. clean to come along and work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand...

Or we leave the country and run away.

Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system, When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England experiences unemployment we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war-struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

Let Us Pray

O Almighty and Eternal God, look upon the Heart of Thy dearly beloved Son, and upon the praise and satisfaction He offers Thee in the name of sinners and for those who seek Thy mercy; be Thee appeased, and grant us pardon in the Name of the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son,

Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

6.Burning of Petitions

Let us ask the Sacred Heart for any favours we wish, and also to bless us all and keep us together. (Sing a Hymn).

7.Petition Prayers

(a) O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I fly, I come to Thee, throwing myself into the arms of Thy tender mercy. Thou art my sure refuge, my unfailing and only hope. Thou has a remedy for all my evils, relief for all my miseries, reparation for all my faults, Thou canst supply for what is wanting in me in order to obtain fully the graces that I ask for myself and others. Thou art for me, and for us all, the infallible, inexhaustible source of light, of strength, of perseverance, peace and consolation. I am certain that my importunity will never weary Thee; certain, too, that Thou wilt never cease to aid, to protect, to love me, because Thy love for me, O Divine Heart, is infinite.

Have mercy on me then, O Heart of Jesus, and on all that I recommend to Thee, according to Thy own mercy, and do with us, for us, and in us, whatsoever Thou will, for we abandon ourselves to Thee with the full, entire confidence and conviction that Thou will never abandon us either in time or eternity. Amen.

(b) O Sacred Heart of Jesus, we know that there is but one thing impossible to Thee, to be without pity for those who are suffering or in distress. Look down, we beseech Thee, on us, and grant us the grace which we humbly, and earnestly implore Thee, through the Immaculate Heart of Thy sorrowful Mother to whom Thou did confide us as her children, and whose prayers are all powerful with Thee. Amen.

8.Consecration Prayer

O most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of mankind, behold us prostrate most humbly before Thy altar.

To Thee we belong; Thine we wish to be; and, that we may be united to Thee most closely, we dedicate ourselves each one of us today to Thy most Sacred Heart. Many have never known Thee, many, despising Thy commands, have rejected Thee. Have pity on them, most merciful Jesus, and draw all men to Thy Sacred Heart. Rule, O Lord, not only over the faithful who never have gone away from Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee, and make them return quickly to their Father's house, lest they perish of misery and hunger. Rule over those who have been misled by errror, or separated by schism, and call them back to the haven of truth and the unity of faith, so that there may be soon be one fold and one Shepherd.

Lastly, rule over all who are sunk in the old superstition of the Gentiles, and vouchsafe to bring them out of darkness into the light and kingdom of God. Give to Thy Church, O Lord, safety and sure liberty; give to all nations peace and order; and grant that, over the whole earth from pole to pole, may resound the words, "Praise be to the Divine Heart through which was brought to us salvation, glory and hanour be it for ever." Amen.

(A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who piously recite this Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. A plenary indulgence is granted if it is recited publicly on the feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King.)

9.Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed through the Divine Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

To Jesus' Heart, all burning,
With fervent love for men,
My heart with yondest yearning,
Shall raise the joyful strain.

Chorus:-

While ages course along,
Blest be with loudest song,
The Sacred Heart of Jesus,
By every heart and tongue,
The Sacred Heart of Jesus,
By every heart and tongue.

O Heart for me on fire,
With love no man can speak,
My yet untold desire,
God gives me for Thy sake.

YOUTH WORK - 7 DIMENSIONAL APPROACHES

For whom is this file meant?

For anyone in a helping profession, especially for youth animators(priests, teachers, counselors and so on).

What are their contents of this file?

*Material use in our training seminars for your animators.
*These papers are not notes to be read, like a road.
*They are not lecture notes, nor are most of them self-explanatory.
*They make sense chiefly as training material.

As such, they are a tool in the hands of the trained animator.Tools, nothing more, nothing else.By themselves, those papers will not turn anyone into an effective youth worker.

The whole point of training programme is precisely this:

Youth ministry (or any ministry, for that matter) depends mostly on the quality of the youth animator and on the relationships and atmosphere he hopes to create. It is not a theoretical problem to be solved through files, lectures or discussions.

How can I use the material provided here?

You can use it in a wide variety of ways, provided you have (1) gone through the training seminars; and (2) have some direct experience of youth work. There is no substitute for either of these to requisites.

The youth worker, we believe needs to be:
1. A person of inner balance basically happy and emotionally healthy.
2. A person who is able to relate to others and understand the basics of human relationships.
3. The person who can lead, be in charge of a group, help people in distress, communicate effectively.
4. A person who understands the needs and problems of young people.
5. A person with a critical grasp of our society.
6. A person open to various orientations in youth work, willing to learn from them.
7. A person of deep faith, happy to share with others the Lord's love and goodness.

Will all this preparation help the animator, too?

Yes, apart from his contribution to the growth and happiness of so many young people (who from more than half of our population), he himself matures receives love, keeps young to quite Arthur young Pinero
Those who love deeply
Never grow old
They may die of old age
But they die young
May you grow up, grow old help many and die young!

Dimensions one and two: PERSONAL GROWTH AND RELATIONSHIPS

Anyone engaged in a helping profession a priest, a teacher, counsellor, doctor, social worker... Needs to develop his own personality; to grow as a responsible, caring, happy individuals, who is able to relate to people and bring out the best in others?

This is particularly true of youth work: Youth ministry, in fact, is not based on a set of techniques nor on a theoretical grasp of youth problems. It is essentially a set of relationships. The better you can relate the more effective your ministry will be. And, to begin with you yourself need to come to grips with your penitential and your flaws, and to be engaged in a constant effort at self renewal.

Dimensions one and two of our programme are aimed at helping the youth worker to become a stronger, happier person, able to relate, to understand. It also initiates him to the group dynamics style of learning.

Dimension three: LEADERSHIP

DIMENSION THREE IN OUR TRAINING PROGRAMME IS LEADERSHIP

* What do you do when you are in charge of group?
* How good a leader are you?
* How can you become more effective leader?
The following training sessions answer this session at a practical level. (as always, you will learn and teach no by reading the notes or lecturing on them, but by going through the exercise with a group).

A leader needs to communicate well. Communication is a vast subject and cannot be covered in a couple of session. All we have here is morsel. You will need to learn more on in your own.

As a leader or helper you will lead to perfect your helping skills such as listening, responding, and understanding various problems and symptoms. This is why we bring in a bit of counseling in this section.

Dimension four: YOUTH PSYCHOLOGY

Studies on youth have become a minor industry in the recent decades. most of the studies are done in America. While we learn from them these important to keep in mind the cultural differences between a Californian teenage and a youngster living in Kumbakonam. Western studies throw light on the common psychological needs, problems and expectations of adolescents. They also alert us to some problems our youth face (or will soon face), especially in the cities. They invite us, above all, to undertake serious and extensive research on our youth. This is an area where enormous gapes have to be filled.

Dimension Five: Social Awareness

A young person's questions, view, hardships and dreams are sharped to a serious grasp of the social conditions of our adolescents.

This is an area that youth movements are concentrating on with increasing interest.

There is a growing sense of the structural injustices of society, of the need for change, of an intelligent and articulate presentation of how our society works.

This concern is by no means restricted to youth workers. Experts from different fields can be brought in to help the youth worker (and youth) get a vision of our society.

Dimension Six: VISION AND STRATEGY

Covered so far are:

1.The youth worker's growth as a person.
2.Human relationships, how they work, how they can be better.
3.Styles of leaderships and ways of becoming better leaders.
4.A Sympathetic understanding of the needs and problems of adolescents and
5.Critical grasp of our society.
In this sixth section, we reflect on our goals and methods, and formulate strategies.

* What is my vision of youth work?

* Which are the main youth movements and organizations that operate in our country and world wide?

* What are their respective approaches?

* What can I learn from others' experiences?

* Which approaches will work best in my context?

* These and other questions of policy, methodology and praxis are covered in Dimension Six

Dimension Seven: Faith

* What do you really believe in?

* What is the purpose of your ministry with youth?

* How do you find God in this work?

* How do you share the Lord's love with the young?

* Each of us needs to answer theses questions for himself?

We need to develop enough inner strength to carry on each day to love the unloved, to start again failure, to forgive and not to be discouraged.

The Secret Of Such Strength is Faith

* Faith in the Lord, in His love and presence and plans.
* Faith calling us to a loving commitment.
* Faith showing us the Lord's face in every face, behind the different questions and the vanished hopes.
* Faith that shows us our tremendous possibilities for the ministry, if we are united with the source.

Prayers in English

SIGN OF THE CROSS:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
(The Sign of the Cross is made by the right hand touching the forehead at the word "Father," the chest at the word "Son," and the left and right shoulders at the words "Holy Spirit.")

OUR FATHER:
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen

THE HAIL MARY:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

GLORY BE:
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

ACT OF FAITH :
O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became flesh, died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths that the Holy Catholic Church teaches because you have revealed them, Who can neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen.

ACT OF HOPE :
O my God, relying on your almighty power, infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon for my sins, the help of your grace, and life everlasting through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen

ACT OF LOVE :
O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and ask pardon of all who I have injured. Amen

ACT OF CONTRITION: (version 1)
O my God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against You, Whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy. - Amen

ACT OF CONTRITION: (version 2)
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and
I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments,
but most of all because they offend Thee, my God,
Who art all-good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.

ACT OF CONTRITION: (version 3)
O MY GOD, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee,
and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell;
but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING :
Almighty Father, you are lavish in bestowing all your gifts, and we give you thanks or the favors you have given to us. In your goodness you have favored us and kept us safe in the past. We ask that you continue to protect us and to shelter us in the shadow of your wings. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE ANGELUS :
V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary...
V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord
R. Let it be done unto me according to your word. Hail Mary...
V. And the Word was made flesh
R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary...
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an angel, may, by his Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of his Resurrection through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.

PRYER FOR THE SICK :
O God, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brothers and sisters. May all who suffer pain, illness or disease realize that they are chosen to be saints, and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

PRAYER FOR THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED :

God, Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your servants and handmaids the forgiveness of all their sins. Through our devout prayers may they obtain the pardon which they have always desired. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Lord, hear our prayers; in your mercy, bring us to your place of peace and light the soul(s) of your servant(s) [Name(s)], whom you have summoned from this world. Call [Name(s)] to be numbered in the fellowship of your saints. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

PRAYER BEFORE CRUCIFIX :
Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in your sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul I pray and beseech that you would impress upon my heart lively sentiments of Faith, Hope and Charity, true repentance for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment, while with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate your five most precious wounds, having before my eyes that which David spoke in prophecy of you, O good Jesus: "They have pierced my hands and feet, they have numbered all my bones." Amen

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION :
O sacred banquet, in which Christ is consumed, the memory of his passion is recalled, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.

APOSTLES' CREED :
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. Amen.

NICENE CREED :
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

PRAYER BEFORE MEAL :
Bless us, O Lord! and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord.

We beseech Thee to pour out Thy blessings upon all its members, absent and present, living and dead. And when one after the other we have fallen asleep in Thy Blessed Bosom, O Jesus, may all of us, in Paradise, find again our family in Thy Sacred Heart. May the Divine Assistance remain always with us, and may the Souls of the Faithful Departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Charles E. Olson

My Guardian Angel and all my patrons, pray for me. Amen

NIGHT PRAYER :
Lord Jesus Christ, you have given your followers an example of gentleness and humility, a task that is easy, a burden that is light. Accept the prayers and work of this day, and give us the rest that will strengthen us to render more faithful service to you who live and reign forever and ever. Amen

THE ROSARY :
There are many devotions in the Catholic Church that help us in our growth as Christians. Among them the holy Rosary occupies a pre-eminent place because of its beauty, simplicity and the depth of its richness. It is universal in its appeal. Children lisp it on their mother's lap. Mature people have recourse to it in times of difficulty. It comes as a solace in old age. It strengthens family bonds. The Rosary is a compendium of the Gospel. It contains in capsule form all the essentials of the Gospel.

PRAYING THE ROSARY:
Rosary beads consist of a small cross, a series of beads in a circular arrangement of five strands of ten beads each separated by a single bead. On each bead in the string of ten beads a Hail Mary is prayed; the single beads are the for the Lord's Prayer.

The purpose of the rosary, however, is not to recite rote prayers but to repeat prayers you know by heart as you contemplate, actively meditate on, a mystery of Christianity. A mystery in this context is an important event whose whole meaning you won't fully understand in this world.

For 900 years there have been three series of mysteries: the Joyous Mysteries (Christ's Incarnation) the Sorrowful Mysteries (Christ's suffering and death) and the Glorious Mysteries (Christ's resurrection). Pope John Paul II has added a new set of areas of contemplation -- the Luminous Mysteries, which encompass Christ's ministry on earth. This isn't so much an addition to a tradition as the filling of a gap. The Joyful Mysteries end with Christ being found, at age 12, teaching in the temple. The Sorrowful Mysteries start with Christ suffering in Gethsemane the night before his death. It was odd to contemplate the Joyful Mysteries one day and jump to the Sorrowful Mysteries the next; something was missing -- what Jesus said and did as an adult.

The rosary had been as it was for almost a millennium. Why did Pope John Paul change it? "He is making a statement at the end of his life about what's important to him," says Father C.J. McCloskey of Washington's Catholic Information Center. "By adding these mysteries he is saying, 'This is another invitation to look closely at the life of Christ--to contemplate and meditate.'" While meditating, the person reciting the prayers is brought closer to Jesus and his Mother Mary.

"Step-By-Step" Instructions for Praying The Rosary

Beginning with the Rosary's Cross: Begin as with all prayers In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. (making the sign of the Cross while doing that)

On the single bead just above the cross, pray the Apostles Creed. This and all prayers of the rosary are meditative prayers

The next cluster of beads are 3 bead, the "Hail Mary" prayer is said on these three beads. You pray the 3 Hail Marys while meditating on the three divine virtues of faith, hope, and love/charity.

On the next bead, which is a single bead, you announce the first divine mystery of contemplation. For example, if it were a Monday, you would say the first Joyful Mystery is "The Annunciation", at this point you pray the "Our Father" prayer.

Now this will bring you to the first decade, or set of 10 beads of the Rosary. You will then pray 10 Hail Marys while contemplating the first mystery, example: The Annunciation.

After the 10th Hail Mary you will have completed the first of 5 decades which make up a Chaplet of the Rosary. You now come to another single bead, at this point, you pray the... Glory be to the Father... then (on the same bead) pray the O My Jesus... then (on the same bead) announce the next or second mystery. For example: if its Monday and your praying the Joyful Mysteries, the second Joyful Mystery is The Visitation. At this point you pray the Our Father....

You will now come to the second decade or group of 10 beads, you will now pray the 10 Hail Marys while contemplating the appropriate mystery.

You continue to pray the rosary the same way throughout. If your intention is to pray a Chaplet (a single set of mysteries) at the end of the fifth mystery you will come back to the joiner, this is where the decades all join with the lower part of the rosary which contains the cross. When you come to the joiner, you decide whether or not you wish to say another Chaplet or end. If you decide to say another Chaplet you simply announce the next mystery and continue. If you wish to end, you simply say the Glory Be To The Father, the O My Jesus, The Our Father and end the rosary with the Hail Holy Queen and the sign of the Cross

THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY :

The Rosary is divided into three parts, each having five mysteries. While reciting each mystery, begin by praying one "Our Father", three "Hail Mary's" and the "Glory Be" (which makes up one decade):

THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES
(Recite Mondays and Saturdays, and Sundays during Advent)

1. The annunciation that Mary is to be Mother of the Savior (Lk 1:26-38).
2. The visitation of Mary to Elizabeth (Lk 1:39 47).
3. The nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ (Lk 2:1-7).
4. The presentation of the Infant Jesus in the Temple (Lk 2:22- 32).
5. The finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple (Lk 2:41-52)

THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
(Recite Tuesdays and Fridays, also Sundays during Lent):
1. The agony of Christ in the garden (Mk 14:32-36).
2. The scourging of Jesus (Jn 18:28-38;19:1).
3. The crowning with thorns (Mk 15:16-20).
4. The carrying of the cross (Jn 19:l2-16).
5. The crucifixion of Jesus (Lk 23:33-34; 39-46).

THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES
(Recite Sundays and Wednesdays, also Sundays from Easter until Advent)
1. The resurrection of Jesus (Lk 24:1-6).
2. The ascension of Jesus into Heaven (Lk 24:50-53).
3. The descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4).
4. The assumption of Mary into heaven (Songs 2:8-14).
5. The coronation of our Lady in heaven (Rev 12:1-6)

THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
(Mysteries of Light)
In addition to the joyful, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries, Pope John Paul II recommended that the Luminous Mysteries be recited on Thursdays. The "Mysteries of Light" are drawn from the life of Christ, and his public revelation of his divine nature and mission. They are:

1) The Baptism of Christ in the Jordan (Mt 3:113-17)
2) The wedding feast at Cana (Jn 2:1-11)
3) The announcement of the Kingdom (Lk 4:14-21)
4) The Transfiguration (Mk 9:2-8)
5) The Institution of the Eucharist (Lk 22:14-20)

GLORY BE to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

After each decade pray the FATIMA PRAYER
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.

Pray "HAIL HOLY QUEEN" after the five decades:
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. GUARDIAN ANGEL PRAYER :
Angel of God, my guardian dear
To whom God's love commits me here
Ever this day (night) be at my side
To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen

PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL :
Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into Hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. Amen (Pope Leo XIII -1878-1903)

PRAYER TO ST. JUDE, PATRON SAINT OF HOPELESS CAUSES :
Most holy apostle, Saint Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly - (Here make your request) and that I may praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise, O blessed Saint Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen.

PRAYER OF ST. TERESA OF AVILA :
“Let nothing disturb thee; Let nothing dismay thee; All thing pass; God never changes. Patience attains all that it strives for. He who has God Finds he lacks nothing: God alone suffices.”

PRAYER OF ST. TERESA OF LISIEUX :
O glorious Saint Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a "Prodigy of Miracles . . . the Greatest Saint of Modern Times." Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition [describe your petition here] and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good on earth . . . of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfill your plea "to be made known everywhere" and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen.

PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS :
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

PRAYER OF SAINT IGNATIUS LOYOLA :
Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will, All I have and call my own. You have given all to me. To you, Lord, I return it. Everything is yours; do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace. That is enough for me. Amen

Amen

PRAYER FOR GENEROSITY:
Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, save that of knowing that I do your will. Amen

PRAYER TO ST. LUCY, PATRON OF EYE SIGHT :
Relying on Your goodness, O God, we humbly ask you, by the intercession of your servant, Saint Lucy, to give perfect vision to our eyes, that we may serve for your greater honor and glory. PRAYER FOR HEALING :
Lord Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, go back into my memory as I sleep. Every hurt that has ever been done to me, heal that hurt. Every hurt that I have ever caused another person, heal that hurt. All the relationships that have been damaged in my whole life that I am not aware of , heal those relationships. But, O Lord, if there is anything that I need to do, If I need to go to a person because he or she is still suffering from my hand, bring to my awareness that person. I choose to forgive, and I ask to be forgiven. Remove whatever bitterness may be in my heart, Lord, and fill the empty spaces with your love. Amen.

SALVE REGINA : (Hail Holy Queen)
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy! Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. THE MEMORARE : St. Bernard
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired then with confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother! To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

OUR LADY OF LOURDES :
Ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, health of the sick, refuge of sinners, comfort of the afflicted, you know my needs, my troubles, my sufferings; cast on me a look of pity. By appearing in the grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, from which you dispense your favors, and already may sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and physical. I come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain most loving mother, my requests, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen

PRAYER TO MARY IMMACULATE CONCEPTION :
O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who lives and reigns with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY :
Most Holy Virgin Mary, tender Mother of men, to fulfill the desires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the request of the Vicar of Your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves and our families to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and we recommend to You, all the people of our country and all the world. Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us as You wish to accomplish Your designs in the world.

O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the World, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of a virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the Rosary more faithfully.

We come with confidence to You, O Throne of Grace and Mother of Fair Love. Inflame us with the same Divine Fire which has inflamed Your own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Make our hearts and homes Your shrine, and through us, make the Heart of Jesus, together with your rule, triumph in every heart and home. Amen.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED HEART :
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Thee I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring and glorifying Thee. This is my irrevocable will, to belong entirely to Thee, and to do all for Thy love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Thee.

I take Thee, O Sacred Heart, for the sole object of my love, the protection of my life, the pledge of my salvation, the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, the reparation for all the defects of my life, and my secure refuge at the hour of my death. Be Thou, O Most Merciful Heart, my justification before God Thy Father, and screen me from His anger which I have so justly merited. I fear all from my own weakness and malice, but placing my entire confidence in Thee, O Heart of Love, I hope all from Thine infinite Goodness. Annihilate in me all that can displease or resist Thee. Imprint Thy pure love so deeply in my heart that I may never forget Thee or be separated from Thee. I beseech Thee, through Thine infinite Goodness, grant that my name be engraved upon Thy Heart, for in this I place all my happiness and all my glory, to live and to die as one of Thy devoted servants. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT :
O Lord Jesus Christ, before ascending into heaven you did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish your work in the souls of your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of your grace and your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with you and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in imitation of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord with the sign of your true disciples, and animate me in all things with your Spirit. Amen.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT :
On my knees, before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to you, Eternal Spirit of God. You are the strength and light of my soul and I desire never to grieve you by unfaithfulness. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for your light, and listen to your voice, and follow your gracious inspirations. I cling to you and give myself to you and ask you, by your compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds, and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore you Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, to keep me in your grace that I may never sin against you. Give me grace O Holy Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to you always and everywhere, "Speak Lord for your servant listens." Amen.
